Céline Chourlet - Biography
Céline Chourlet is a contemporary French painter, self-taught. Originally from Chamigny in Seine et Marne, she draws her inspiration, her energy, and her desire to create in her childhood. It was in her father's garden that she discovered the shapes and the dazzling colors that would inspire her in her creations. At the age of 18, she left the Parisian countryside to discover the Var region. Between land and sea, flower garden, and colorful workshops, she painted her first canvases. In 1994, her journey took her to Brittany, to Pont Aven where she opened the first "Galerie Chourlet", quickly followed by other galleries at the Place des Vosges in Paris and a gallery in Vence (South of France). Her life between Brittany, Ile de Ré, Paris will continue in Luxembourg where the artist resides for ten years and opens a gallery in front of the Luxembourg Grand Ducal Palace. Céline Chourlet has exhibited in Japan, the United States, Switzerland.
Deeply inspired by Mediterranean life, she finally regained the serenity of the Côte d'Azur in 2009 and opened a new gallery in Cannes with fellow artist (and husband) Christian Neel.
However, the artist does not only paint on smooth surfaces. During various artistic projects, Céline Chourlet painted a car for the release of Chrysler's PT Cruyser or a cow for the "Art on Cow" exhibition in Luxembourg. Painting on "surfaces" has always inspired the artist, she decides to create a unique form, which she could appropriate and paint. In 2014, Marcel le Chat was born, an original sculpture in resin, hand-painted and varnished. Today there are 6 different Marcels of varying sizes and gaits.
